Cassidy Goldstein
Featured Young Inventor
At
eleven, Cassidy had a tutor to help her improve her general
writing skills. The tutor gave her a project to produce some
work requiring the use of crayons. Cass only had broken crayon
pieces to work with and was unable to manipulate them
skillfully.
Being creative she pulled together some of her arts and craft
materials and made the first crayon holder. When she went to use
it her tutor asked where she had purchased it. She said that she
wanted to give it other students because it would be a benefit
for small motor skills as well as providing longevity of the
crayon.
The tutor, a dean of a local college, said Cassidy's invention
was a wonderful tool for children learning how to draw, while
protecting little hands from getting dirty.
Cassidy met with an attorney and filed a patent application for
her "crayon holders". In August of 2002, Cassidy received a
utility patent #6,402,407 for her "crayon holders". She filed a
second patent application for a new crayon holder model. This
invention is patent pending.
In May 2003, Cassidy entered into a licensing agreement with a
toy company to sell and market her product. She will receive a
5% royalty from all sales. Her "crayon holders" will be sold in
major retail stores in the fall of 2003.
Cassidy is 16 and a senior in High School. |
