Phil Bourgeois
Founder and President, Studio Red
Philip founded Studio RED, a multimillion-dollar a year Product
Development Consultancy, in 1983 to create products that
integrated exciting aesthetics with sound, efficient
manufacturing techniques. In the interim he has directed over
2000 projects, including a wide range of high-tech, medical and
consumer product development efforts.
He began his career as an Industrial Designer and Plastics
Engineer, winning the SMAU Product Design award for the Osborne
3 portable personal computer design. His design for the Coherent
Field master, a laser test device, won product of the year from
Photonics Magazine, and he has also received numerous patents.
Some of Phil's other distinctive products include the Osborne
Vixen, Adaptec Nodem, SCSI interface device; several computers
for Chips and Technologies, Amdahl, Samsung, Fujitsu, and
terminals for Televideo. Phil has designed and managed large
Medical and Industrial systems and development programs for GE
NMR, General Signal Thin Film, Vicom, and Becton Dickinson in
the US and Europe. More recently he has directed portable
computing device development programs for General Magic (Data
rover), ATT FRS Radio, Compaq Personal Jukebox, Therasense
Glucose Meter, National Semiconductor Origami, Origami II and
the HP Advanced concept Notebook/Pad convertible.
Prior to Studio Red, Phil worked for GVO, Hall Design, and
managed a plastic molding shop in Los Angeles.
He graduated from California State University, Long Beach, and
has served as Vice Chairman of Industrial Design Society of
America (IDSA). He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society
and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). |
